Samantha Bond celebrates the Brothers Grimm fairy tales. Nick Davies conducts the 蜜芽传媒 Concert Orchestra. Guest singers include Hadley Fraser and 'Wicked' star Louise Dearman.
Two of the best story tellers of all time were The Brothers Grimm, Wilhem and Jacob, who together collected and wrote down countless German folk tales, including the stories of Cinderella, Rapunzel, Hansel and Gretel, Sleeping Beauty, Little Red Riding Hood, The Pied Piper and Snow White.
Tonight, Sunday Night Is Music Night presents a concert of music inspired by these classic fairy tales, marking the 150 anniversary of Jacob Grimm's final ascent of the celestial beanstalk.
The concert brings classical music and classic films together, with music from Tchaikowsky, Mendelssohn, Rossini, Mussorsgsky and Rimsky Korsakov, alongside songs written for Disney's Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Aladdin, Tangled (Rapunzel) and The Little Mermaid.
Samantha Bond is our presenter and story teller, singer Hadley Fraser takes on the role of the handsome Prince, while the current star of 'Wicked' Louise Dearman is our Princess. The magical 60 piece 蜜芽传媒 Concert orchestra, will be under the fantastical direction of Maestro Nick Davies.
The whole concert finishes with the spectacular 鈥楴ight on a Bare Mountain' as featured in Disney's 鈥楩antasia'.

Goodbye For Now...
So it was Friday Night is 鈥淔right鈥� Night and a chance for me to don a witch鈥檚 hat and wave a magic wand around the Hackney Empire 鈥� but Friday was also a sad occasion for us backstage as it marked the last Friday Night is Music Night for our Senior Studio Manager Graham Bunce.听听After more than 40 years in 蜜芽传媒 service Graham will retire at the end of 2013.听 鈥淏uncey鈥� as we know him -听 all our regular studio managers seem to have nicknames like Wawa or even Mad Dog鈥ut I digress..听 鈥淏uncey鈥� worked on his first FNIMN on 22nd October 1971 at the Camden Theatre in London .听On that occasion the show was conducted by Mr Friday Night himself听 -听 Sidney Torch - with star singer John Lawrenson;听 presenter Jimmy Kingsbury and producer Robert Bowman.听听Any regular Friday Nighters remember that one 鈥� I wonder?? 鈥� we鈥檇 love to hear from you.听Now 42 years later( almost to the day)听 Graham has balanced his last FNIMN for Radio 2.听He truly is one of the very best sound engineers in the business and he will be sorely missed by us all.听 As well as the brilliant sounds he brought to the show听听I鈥檒l miss his dry sense of humour and ..yes..the bags of wine gums and jelly babies he always brought to our rehearsals.听We send our best wishes to Graham, his wife Jackie and family for a long and happy retirement and though Graham will not be鈥� twiddling the knobs鈥� for us I know he will always be one of our loyal FNIMN listeners听 - well -听 when he鈥檚 not on Grandad duty that is!听
