Steven Connor

The writer and academic Steven Connor has written a book shining a light on the ‘sobs, hums, stutters and other vocalisations’ that pepper our speech. ‘Beyond Words’ (Reaktion Books) delves into the often overlooked sounds we make, including ‘um’, which he calls ‘silence made audible’.
Will Eaves

Will Eaves reads from his new book ‘The Absent Therapist’ (CB Editions), which weaves together a selection of narratives and voices. Will discusses conversations, particularly the ones that never go as planned, and the pleasures of those overheard.
Hanna Tuulikki

Hanna is a musician and artist. Her work explores the music made by people who live close to the land. Hanna has created ‘At Sing Two Birds’, a piece which weaves folk songs which mimic the sound of birds. Hanna explains how moving between the songs is like ‘hopping between branches’ in her head.
Ron Silliman

An influential figure in contemporary poetics, Ron Silliman became associated with the West Coast literary movement known as “Language poetry” in the 1960s and 70s. He has written more than thirty books of poetry, critical works and anthologies.
‘Northern Soul’ (Shearsman) is the second installment in his major sequence ‘Universe’. Inspired by his journey through Lancashire, ‘Northern Soul’ was written during Ron’s travels, and captures a mind in the process of thinking.
