Today's Afternoon on 3 features Elgar's The Dream of Gerontius; his choral work describing the journey of a pious man's soul from his deathbed to his judgment before God and then Purgatory. The 蜜芽传媒 Symphony Orchestra and Chorus were recorded at the Fairfield Halls in London earlier this year. Plus the Nordic and Baltic theme continues with a chance to hear the orchestra in Alfven's tone poem, A Legend of the Skerries. The afternoon ends with another offering from the orchestra's new set of Szymanowski recordings - his Symphony no.1 in F minor.
