The restaurant industry has a history of sexism, from the 1950’s style US diner to cocktail dresses as part of the staff uniform. But what about when that message comes across in a more overt manner? Especially in an establishment where this catches you off guard?

Take high-end restaurateur Mark Hix, and his restaurant Hixter where female staff members wear t-shirts with the slogan Crack Whore Chicken and Chips. Is this artistic and ironic or just sexist and degrading?

It’s two weeks since the first of the terrorist attacks in Paris was carried out on the office of the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo. The following Sunday four million French turned out in cities across the country to march in a symbolic protest of unity but still, many fear there will be some type of backlash against France’s Muslim population.
