Sara, I have to admit the week after the Easter Bank Holiday is the hardest one to recover from. I woke up this morning thinking it was Thursday. Thank God for my wife and three alarms!

Without a doubt, the sunshine over the last week has been nudging me out of that long-than-usual winter funk. Clearly, I still have a way to go. 鈥嶮y son, on the other, is never in a funk.

Every time we pass trees blossoming or flowerbeds blooming he grooves with excitement. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 spring Abba!鈥� he declares. It鈥檚 a chance, I think to myself, to start again.

But starting again isn鈥檛 easy. It鈥檚 like coming back to life after winter hibernation 鈥� our muscles ache and our bones creak. Renewal often means closing a book and opening another.

45 years ago my father was a student here in London during a winter that wouldn鈥檛 end, living in a flat that never warmed. He recalls the 10th of April 1970 being unseasonably cold, wet and windy. It was also the day that Paul McCartney left The Beatles.

My father was never much of a Beatles devotee, but he felt that this was a moment too important to miss. He schlepped across town to Abbey Road Studios to find fans languishing in mourning 鈥� plaintively singing, faces tear stained trying to hold on to the hope the Fab Four might hold it together. The soundtrack of their young lives was ending 鈥� and they couldn鈥檛 do anything about it.聽聽

But it wasn鈥檛 the end of the world. Just a few short years later those same kids were feeling the 鈥渘oize鈥� with Noddy鈥檚 band Slade. Time 鈥� and music thankfully 鈥� moves on.聽

Remarking on the coming of spring, the Persian mystic Hafiz joyously proclaimed, 鈥淟earn the Way of Truth from the clarity of water. Learn freedom from the spreading grass.鈥�

Just as I鈥檒l watch Christine rediscover 鈥淲ild Ireland鈥� this week, I too hope that this spring will be a time to experience the world and my place in it anew. In the breakup of bands, the changing of seasons and in journeys taken again, God, I鈥檓 convinced, wants us to find inspiration and purpose.

After all, the Way of Truth is really nothing more than to be the best version of ourselves.
