Marvellous Maggots!
Maggots have super-hero qualities. Yes, really! The ancients used them to disinfect a wound and help it heal. Now research by Swansea scientists has revealed that their secretions have anti-biotic and anti-fungal properties and could be used to combat super bugs like MRSA.
Dr Yamni Nigam set up the Maggots Research Centre at Swansea University to work out exactly how they act on humans - and the results are fascinating. Adam Walton gets to meet the sterile, medicinal maggots that are finding favour with scientists and doctors alike.
