Today marks 150 years since the birth of Carl Nielsen. To celebrate this anniversary, the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Philharmonic presents the first in a series of three concerts which includes all of his symphonies. Tonight his First Symphony (in the first performance of which he played in the second violin section) is paired with the indomitable life-affirming power of the Fourth. Roderick Williams joins the orchestra in four of Mahler's colourful songs from Des Knaben Wunderhorn. The series continues on 13 June with the Second and Fifth symphonies and on 18 June with the Third and Sixth.
