Ten Pieces
Suzy Klein presents the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ National Orchestra of Wales under Thomas Sondergard playing Ten Pieces, a selection that hopes to inspire children to be creative with classical music.
Friday Night is Music Night - The Ten Pieces Prom with Suzy Klein.
As the long summer holidays reach the final furlong join Suzy Klein for a special children's prom celebrating the Ten Pieces with great classical music plus fun and frolics from Dick and Dom and Blue Peter's Barney Harwood.
Trolls, witches, space ships and a magical firebird will be firing the imaginations of the audience as we hear the Ten Pieces performed by the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ National Orchestra of Wales conducted by Thomas SøndergÃ¥rd.
Last Autumn the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ launched this ambitious project to introduce ten orchestral works into primary schools and inspire young children with classical music. 120 thousand children watched the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Ten Pieces film at their local cinema and 18 thousand attended Ten Pieces concerts given by the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ orchestras around the country. Since October primary school children have been working on their own creative pieces inspired by music by the likes of Britten, Beethoven, Handel, Holst, Mozart and Grieg.
Tickets for this prom sold out in days and tonight we'll hear some of the compositions written by children inspired by the Ten Pieces.
Ten Pieces Ambassador Suzy Klein gives us a backstage tour of the Proms from the queue outside the Royal Albert Hall to the inside arena and the radio broadcast loggia. Suzy will talk to these junior prommers about their favourite pieces and in the interval she talks to Barney Harwood and Dick and Dom about how the Ten Pieces project has progressed over the past year.
Recorded 19th July at the Royal Albert Hall, London.
