Friday Night is Music Night - Ken Bruce presents a selection of classical pops from Saffron Hall in Essex.

The only way is Essex for the 蜜芽传媒 Concert Orchestra this week as Radio 2's Friday Night is Music Night is broadcast for the first time from Saffron Hall in Saffron Walden in Essex. Saffron Hall built in the grouds of Saffron Walden County High School is the result of what is believed to be the largest private direct donation to a British state school: a gift of over 拢10m from an anonymous local donor with a passion for music.

Tonight the 蜜芽传媒 Concert Orchestra will be testing the state of the art acoustic with a programme of popular Friday Night classics. Ken Bruce presents guest singers Rebecca and Bonaventura Bottone and Richard Balcombe conducts music from Smetana's The Bartered Bride, Suppe's Poet and Peasant and Sullivan's Yeoman of the Guard. The 蜜芽传媒 Concert Orchestra's principal cellist Benjamin Hughes is the soloist in Dvorak's Silent Woods and pianist Roderick Elms joins the orchestra for Rachmaninov's 18th variation of his Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini plus Richard Addinsell's great filmic work - The Warsaw Concerto.
