Mark Radcliffe and Stuart Maconie are joined by American composer Steve Reich. Steve Reich is an American composer who, along with La Monte Young, Terry Riley, and Philip Glass, pioneered minimal music in the mid to late 1960. He's here to talk about a performance of his work Different Trains which will take place as an open-air concert at Edge Hill Station in Liverpool, the oldest passenger railway station in the world. For the first time in the piece's history Steve Reich has allowed a film accompaniment to the work, which has been created by artist Bill Morrison. The London Contemporary Orchestra, who are perhaps best known for their recent work with Radiohead, will provide string players for the live performance who will also record the tape accompaniment for only the third time in the piece's history.
