Tuesday - ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ National Orchestra of Wales
Katie Derham features the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ NOW. Britten: Sinfonia da Requiem. Bantock: The Witch of Atlas. Plus music by Rhian Samuel, Morfydd Owen, Charlie Barber, Nyman and Vaughan Williams.
Katie Derham presents The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ National Orchestra of Wales in British music including women composers in the week of International Women's Day (Wednesday). Ruby Hughes is the soloist in two contrasting works by twentieth century composers which inhabit the tortured minds of heroines from Greek mythology - Phaedra and Clytemnestra. Rumon Gamba sheds new light on two unjustly neglected tone poems in a new recording, and there's music from a recent concert series celebrating composers who have taken bold and fresh approaches to new music, including Michael Nyman's Harpsichord concerto with Mahan Esfahani. Plus an atmospheric nocturne by Morfydd Owen, a promising composer who died tragically young nearly a century ago.
