Jonathan Swain introduces a concert of music from Hungary given by the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Scottish Symphony Orchestra.

2pm
Kodály: Summer evening
Bartók: Violin Concerto No 1
Bartók: Rhapsody No 2 (arr. for violin & orchestra)
Bartók: The Miraculous Mandarin

Today's afternoon concert was recorded in Glasgow last month, and featured works by two titans of Hungarian music: Zoltán Kodály and Béla Bartók. The Hungarian violinist Barnabás Kelemen brings a countryman's understanding to Bartók's First Violin Concerto, with its powerful and plaintive melodies. There's also a chance to hear the orchestral arrangement of Bartók's Second Rhapsody (originally for violin and piano), and music from the score to his controversial ballet The Miraculous Mandarin.
