Weekly Ulster-Scots magazine programme - looking back at the first huge migration to America, how Appalachia changed the tune and what it’s like to drum with the best.
Kintra – the Ulster-Scots magazine programme with Helen Mark and friends. We look back at the first massive migration from these shores in 1718 when thousands of Presbyterians sailed to America in search of a better life. We hear about music that moved with them and found a new form in Appalachia and features in a concert tour from Apollo’s Fire, and with the pipe-band season reaching its peak at “The Worlds”, we get a behind-the-scenes look at the preparation needed. With a nod to that world on Banterbox – are pipers better musicians than drummers?
