Two of the UK's best-loved impressionists drop in to chat to Jo and Simon about their autumn tour, in which we're promised "over 30 characters for the price of two!"
She's Merkel To His Trump. He's Boris to her Theresa. Two of Britain's finest impressionists come together on one bill to tour the UK, making sense (and nonsense) of a world where Boris Johnson is Foreign Secretary, Donald Trump is US President, and Brexit means Brexit. Good luck with that. Featuring personalities from Nigel Farage to Joanna Lumley, Diane Abbott to Fiona Bruce, and the sublime to Jacob Rees Mogg. Over 30 characters for the price of two, and you can expect a unique mix of impressions and satire from the stars of Bremner, Bird and Fortune and Dead Ringers.
Rory Bremner is Britain’s best-known satirical impressionist and comedian. His satire show Bremner, Bird and Fortune was a mainstay of Channel 4’s output from 1992 to 2010 and won many awards, including three back-to-back BAFTAs.
Since then, Rory has returned to the ѿý with two Election specials, along with two Referendum specials for ѿý Scotland. He has also presented many documentaries, a series of Great British Views for ITV, and featured in Who Do You Think You Are. He also writes, dances (Strictly Come Dancing, 2011), acts (Relative Values by Noel Coward in London’s West End), and has translated plays and operas by Kurt Weill, Bertolt Brecht, Bizet (Carmen) and Offenbach (Orpheus in the Underworld). Rory will be starring in The Imitation Game, a new impressions panel show for ITV, starting in autumn 2018.
Jan Ravens has had a long and varied comedic career, beginning with the esteemed Cambridge Footlights Club. Her first taste of Edinburgh success was as the director of the The Cellar Tapes in 1981, which won the first ever Perrier Award for best comedy show and last year’s show Difficult Woman was a complete sell-out. Jan was also a regular face on Alexei Sayle’s Stuff, Carrot’s Lib and The Grimleys, has made numerous TV appearances on mainstays such as Have I Got News for You, Whose Line is it Anyway? and Countdown, and was even the voice of the Cadbury’s Caramel bunny.
Her talent as an impressionist, however, became obvious with the legendary Spitting Image, and her niche in mimicry has been further carved out in ѿý’s Dead Ringers. As the show has developed, so have Jan’s top-notch portrayals of the nation’s favourite celebs and political figures – and none more notable than the current PM Theresa May. Besides touring solo and with Rory this year, she has also appeared on Sorry I Haven’t a Clue, Just a Minute and A Charles Paris Mystery (for Radio 4), and will appear in ITV’s The Imitation Game in the autumn – alongside Rory.
