A Mighty Trombone

Jorgen van Rijen plays a recent trombone concerto by James MacMillan with the ѿý SSO alongside music by Tchaikovsky and Dvorak. Martyn Brabbins conducts.

Music director of English National Opera Martyn Brabbins re-joins his long-time collaborators, the ѿý Scottish Symphony Orchestra, in Glasgow to perform Sir James MacMillan's recent Trombone Concerto with the virtuoso for whom it was written, Jorgen van Rijen.

Alongside the concerto's fireworks the orchestra explore romantic classics: a selection of Dvorak's Slavonic Dances; and Tchaikovsky's tuneful First Symphony, subtitled 'Winter Daydreams.'
