Sarah-Jane Summers and the Orkney Folk Festival

Bruce looks ahead to the Orkney Folk Festival. He explores Scots and Gaelic words that originate from Old Norse with Sarah-Jane Summers and her new album Owerset.

On the eve of the Orkney Folk Festival 2019, which runs from 23rd - 26th May, Bruce takes a look at this year's fabulous line-up. Orkney is an island with deep Nordic connections so, in keeping with the Orcadian theme, Sarah-Jane Summers' new album Owerset explores Scots and Gaelic words that originate from Old Norse. Illustrating the linguistic reaches of the Vikings, the album covers concepts from marriage, sea mist, crying and even the staple of the hipster male... the beard. Sarah-Jane joins Bruce live from Oslo to talk about the linguistic connections between Scotland and Scandinavia.
