Closing our week of music from the Czech Republic, we hear two concerts given recently by the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra. First we have the ensemble conducted by Alexander Liebrich in Carl Maria von Weber's overture to his opera Oberon, followed by Richard Strauss' Oboe concerto, with Vil茅m Veverka as soloist, then Mussorgsky's mighty orchestral poem Night on Bald Mountain, finishing with Jan谩膷ek's rhapsody for orchestra Taras Bulba.
Then conductor Ondrej Len谩rd takes to the rostrum, with the same ensemble, to perform Nov谩k's 'In the Tatras', describing the mountain range of Eastern Europe, and, closing the concert and this week's Czech performances, Josef Suk's Symphony No. 2 in C minor, 'Asrael', inspired by the Old Testament.
