Are Asians open to getting marriage counselling?
Are Asians open to getting marriage counselling? Qasa is asking this off the back of an article in Asian Image which says that marriage counselling is often seen as a “dirty secret” within Asian communities. The author of the article goes on to say that when she was having problems in her marriage there was an expectation in the culture that they should just grin and bear it. Then we’ll hear about a new NHS campaign ‘Every Mind Matters’, which aims to help people to manage and improve their mental health. This comes after a recent survey suggested that in the last year 82% of people from an Asian background have experienced early signs of poor mental health including feeling anxious, stressed or having trouble sleeping. After that we’ll have our feature ‘Big Debate’s Little Debate’, where a listener has emailed in to say that she feels British born Pakistanis discriminate against native Pakistanis. Plus, journalist Kavita Puri talks to Qasa about the final instalment of Radio 4 programme ‘Three Pounds in My Pocket’.
