H C Andersen鈥檚 story The Little Mermaid is imaginatively interpreted by Alexander Zemlinsky in his colourful and atmospheric half hour long fantasy for orchestra. Premiered in 1905, the same year as The Mermaid, Debussy's 鈥淪ymphonic sketches鈥�, as he called La Mer, is a sonorous abundance of sound gaining inspiration from Javanese music,
