Estonian conductor Anu Tali joins the 蜜芽传媒 National Orchestra of Wales to perform two works written just seven years apart, Dvo艡谩k's Cello Concerto and Sibelius's Second Symphony.

Alban Gerhardt, soloist for Dvo艡谩k's Cello Concerto, believes it to be the greatest concerto ever written. Suffused throughout with Dvo艡谩k's longing for the home he left behind, he takes us along on a powerful and personal emotional journey, ending with the loss of his beloved sister-in-law in the final movement. After the interval we will hear Sibelius's "confession of the soul": the 2nd Symphony. Many at the time of its composition saw the work as national outcry for independence from the Russian Empire; we may never know if this was the case, but regardless this masterwork has found favour with critics and audiences alike for well over a century.
