Royal Liverpool Philharmonic plays Beethoven, Chopin, Caroline Shaw and Sibelius
Joshua Weilerstein conducts the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic in Beethoven's 'Egmont', Chopin's Piano Concerto No 2, Shaw's Entr'acte for strings and Sibelius's Fifth Symphony.
Joshua Weilerstein conducts the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra in a concert that unites the heroism of Beethoven, the poetry of Chopin and a haunting and beautiful work by Pulitzer Prize-winner Caroline Shaw. In the second half, the orchestra will perform one of the great 20th Century symphonic masterpieces - Sibelius' 5th.
One evening in the forests of Finland, Sibelius saw a flight of sixteen swans. ‘God, what beauty!’ he exclaimed – and he transformed that natural wonder into the melody that crowns his Fifth Symphony, a tune so good that you feel like you’ve known it your whole life.
