Prayer for the Day
Good morning,Â
As they rise today a number of parents will be waking up to the actuality of empty nest syndrome, as more and more young people are getting ready to leave home to go off to university, including my own nice. I rememberwell, my 18-year-old bated breath excitement at the heady thought of leaving home. I was leaving home in the Midlands where I had lived after moving from Barbados, and I was going to a new and unfamiliar locale, representing freedom to be me. I have to say that when I went off, following Jesus was far from my mind, as I was looking forward to finding fun in my new found freedom. What I found was a passion for social justice, and eventually found that the passion was grounded in following Jesus. My niece, like many other students, has a greater clarity of what she wants to do afterwards, but at present is both fearful and excited as she gets ready to head off to university for the first time, to be released into her new unfamiliar. There is talk swirling around of delayed starts, of online learning, and fewer fresher events to get to know your new neighbourhood and neighbours. But despite these uncertainties, there will still be new beginnings new opportunities and new possibilities. Lord of the dance of life, lead all these young people into the dance that heralds the next stage of their divine life rhythm.Â
Amen
