Hippolyte et Aricie, Rameau's first opera, could equally well have been called Theseus and Phaedra. In this tangled tale from Ancient Greece, the lovers Hippolytus and Aricia struggle against the odds, the gods and Hippolytus's father King Theseus and predatory stepmother Phaedra. There's no happy ending for one couple... but will there be for the other? This stunning production was performed for an online audience at the Op茅ra Comique in Paris last November.
