For one night only, Late Junction becomes Lute Junction as we explore sounds created on instruments from the extensive lute family. Jennifer Lucy Allan leads our whistlestop tour, sharing pieces from the Renaissance to the present day from all corners of the globe. There鈥檒l be carnatic music performed with the Indian vina and Xylouris White鈥檚 meditative repetitions on the Cretan lute as well as sounds by the panduri that accompanies traditional polyphonic singing in Georgia. There鈥檒l be experiments on the Chinese pipa accompanied by field recordings from duo Southeast of Rain, and transportative rituals from Gnawa legend Maalem Mahmoud Gania鈥檚 guembri, a three-stringed bass lute.

It won鈥檛 all be lute-shaped though, Elsewhere there'll be new releases from Jamaican collective Equiknoxx鈥檚 Gavsborg and his joyous living-room collages to traditional Yiddish songs reinterpreted by experimental cellist Francesca Ter-Berg.
