Bradley Walsh and The Coral

Bradley Walsh chats to Zoe about the return of Beat the Chasers on ITV. Plus The Coral have exclusive live music recorded at home from their new album Coral Island.

BAFTA nominated presenter Bradley Walsh chats to Zoe about Beat the Chasers on ITV. Back for a third series, Chasers Anne ‘The Governess’ Hegerty, Mark ‘The Beast’ Labbett, Jenny ‘The Vixen’ Ryan, Shaun ‘The Dark Destroyer’ Wallace and Darragh ‘The Menace’ Ennis challenge contestants to face not one, but 2, 3, 4 or all 5 of them for big-money prizes. Bradley has just been nominated for "Entertainment Performance" at the BAFTA Television Awards for his part in the last series of the show.

The Coral have exclusive live music recorded at home for Zoe and they're on the phone to talk about the new album. Coral Island is the band's 10th studio album and was recorded in the chaos at Parr Street Studios in Liverpool. It was written and performed by the multi-instrumentalist and multi-talented line-up of James Skelly, Ian Skelly, Nick Power, Paul Duffy and Paul Molloy . It's 19 years since the release of their celebrated, self-titled, Mercury Music Prize-nominated, platinum-certified debut in 2002, kick-starting a decade of classic singles, including Dreaming Of You (now on over 100 million streams globally and gaining UK Platinum status), Pass It On, Don’t Think You’re The First and In The Morning.

Plus it's Friday so there's Zoe's Floorfillers just after 0730 as she gets everyone ready for the weekend.

Along with Clare Runacres on news, Richie Anderson on travel and Mike Williams on sport, Zoe and the team have the best start to your morning. With celeb guests, headlines, tunes chosen by listeners and more music than you can shake a glitterball at!

There's also a Pause For Thought from Reverend Kate Bottley and listeners on the line as Zoe entertains the nation with fun for the family!

Pause For Thought

Pause For Thought

It’s not often I’m wrong. But here this morning I’m going to admit one of the greatest mistakes of my life thus far. Zoe, I was wrong about Downton Abbey.Ìý

Ìý

You see I like my television dramas like I like my men, in a sweaty vest and jumping out of an exploding helicopter, so I’d always, despite having never seen an episode, dismissed Downton Abbey as being ‘not my sort of thing.’ Too safe, too slow, too boring, fine for my Mum and the genteel ladies at church, but not for me. But last weekend, while struggling to find a box set to tickle my telly taste buds I stumbled across it and decided to give it a go. Cue three episodes later and I’d cracked out the popcorn and settled in, the scandal, the side -ways glances, the costumes, a bit with a dog! It was ridiculously brilliant! I was hooked.Ìý

Ìý

I often preach about Bible stories that could be right out of Downton.ÌýÌýStories of people who get things wrong.ÌýÌýLike the story of the prodigal son - greedy for his inheritance he asks his Dad for his cash now and takes the money and runs. But before too long he finds himself broke and is forced home admitting his mistake. It’s a great story about the celebration of a child’s return and the generosity of a Father’s forgiveness, but it’s also about the strength of character it took for the arrogant son to eat humble pie admit he was wrong, Martial arts expert and actor Brue Lee once said, ‘Mistakes are always forgivable, if one has the courage to admit them.’

Ìý

I believe perhaps one of the bravest and most radical things we can do, for ourselves and others, is to normalise being wrong. And to not see admitting imperfections as being a signÌýof weakness but rather as a sign of true and absolute strength.

Ìý

Halfway through series 4, I’ve been joined on the sofa by the rest of the Downton denying Bottleys. They’ve been firmly drawn in and we’re averaging 3 shows a night. But I’m home alone today Zoe and I was considering box set cheating on them, and getting a few episodes under my belt before lunchtime, but I know that’d be wrong, besides which think how disappointed Dame Maggie Smith would be in me if I did!Ìý
