Scotland Week - The Scottish Ensemble

The Scottish Ensemble celebrates the arrival of summer with dances from Hungary, The Balkans, Panama and Argentina and Tchaikovsky's Serenade for strings.

With characteristic joy and eclecticism, the Scottish Ensemble鈥檚 opening concert for Perth鈥檚 Festival of the Arts celebrates the arrival of Summer with traditional Hungarian and Balkan dances, a waltz from Vienna and Argentinian Tango. Alongside these sits buoyant music by one of the most significant composers of the mid-twentieth century Grazyna Bacewicz. After the interval, we hear Tchaikovsky鈥檚 Serenade for strings that he described as a "heartfelt piece and so, I dare to think鈥ot lacking in real qualities".
