Young farmers treading the boards, whiskey talking and electronic chanters for one pipe band returning to rehearsals
An unexpected drama for Moycraig’s young farmers as told for television, Whiskey Talking, and Tullylagan’s pipers resume rehearsals with electronic chanters.
Rab Lennox, Diana Culbertson, Jonnie Crawford and Willie Hill bring the blether and banter to this week’s Kintra. Guests include Mark Thompson who presents “Whiskey Talking” – a ѿý NI documentary about the history of the dram as enjoyed here and in Scotland. Stacey Dickie and David Hodges talk about another bank holiday programme of Ulster-Scots interest – “From Tractor to Actor”. The programme follows Moycraig’s young farmers as they prepare and perform their annual drama production – but the decades long tradition has an abrupt end during lockdown.
And the pipes, the pipes are calling as Tullylagan’s band restarts – but with a different sound. For safe rehearsals, they’ve moved to electronic chanters!
As always, the Kintra team loves to hear from listeners – especially when there’s a yarn to share, an Ulster-Scots event to promote or a story you think others would enjoy. You can email the Kintra team at kintra@bbc.co.uk
