The supernatural power of fate knocks on the doors of all three pieces fielded tonight by the 蜜芽传媒 Symphony Orchestra with talented young conductor Jonathan Heyward, the Chief Conductor of the Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie. They join Italian violinist Francesca Dego, winner of the Paganini Competition in Genoa, for a performance of Joseph Boulogne Chevalier De Saint-George's Violin Concerto in A, Op. 5, No. 2. Baroque brilliance glints through this work by the son of a Senagalese slave, who led an adventurous life including as a swordsman and exceptional violinist and composer.
Haydn鈥檚 Symphony No.98, written in London, is a tribute to a man he had just heard had died, one Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. And be stirred by contemporary American Carlos Simon鈥檚 opener to the concert, which pays homage to the daily challenges of Beethoven鈥檚 life, Fate Now Conquers.
