Through drought and famine Wang Lung and family were forced to flee their home. But they are faced with begging and pulling rickshaws in the city. A workers' riot saves them.
Wang Lung and wife O-Lan find a way to return to their home on the farm where steadily their riches increase. But Wang Lung鈥檚 riches bring untapped desires and he becomes obsessed with a concubine, Lotus.
