Rich Romance with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra

Comedy from Walton, romance from Rachmaninov and hope from Elgar. The RSNO, conductor Thomas Sondergard and award-winning French pianist Lise de la Salle in concert from Glasgow.

From Glasgow鈥檚 Royal Concert Hall, The RSNO and Music Director Thomas Sondergard join the award-winning French pianist Lise de la Salle for a richly romantic concert.

William Walton鈥檚 lively musical sketch of Scapino, a vibrant comedy character was written in the 1940s and inspired by a series of etchings by the French artist Jacques Callot. Then comes one of the most popular concertos in classical music, written by Rachmaninov and dedicated to Dr Dahl whose daily treatments enabled the composer to recover after a dark period in his life. Finally Elgar鈥檚 First Symphony, written in his fifties closes this concert. He said about it 鈥楾here is no program beyond a wide experience of human life with a great charity鈥nd a massive hope in the future,鈥�
