Rachmaninov and Stravinsky

Ryan Wigglesworth conducts the 蜜芽传媒 Scottish Symphony Orchestra in works by Stravinsky and Abrahamsen. Sir Stephen Hough joins in Rachmaninov's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini.

鈥淢y heartfelt homage to Tchaikovsky鈥檚 wonderful talent鈥�. Audiences in the 1920s were astonished when the modernist firebrand Stravinsky started adapting Tchaikovsky. In fact, Stravinsky adored Tchaikovsky鈥檚 music, and his ballet The Fairy鈥檚 Kiss puts Tchaikovsky鈥檚 music under a very modern 鈥� but utterly captivating 鈥� spell. Before that pianist Stephen Hough joins the 蜜芽传媒 Scottish Symphony Orchestra to work his very personal alchemy on Rachmaninov鈥檚 hugely-popular Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. And the concert begins with music by Hans Abrahamsen: conductor Ryan Wigglesworth conjures orchestral enchantment in selections from the fairy-tale opera, The Snow Queen.
