Nika's Last Breath

After protesting in Tehran, Nika Shakarami never went home. Iran claimed she killed herself. But a purported confidential report details a killing and a cover up by security forces.

A teenager found dead during Iran’s high-profile anti-government protests was sexually assaulted and killed by undercover agents working for Iran’s security forces, according to a purported leaked document.

In September 2022, 16-year-old Nika Shakarami attended a Woman, Life, Freedom protest in Tehran.

That day, pictures taken of her burning her hijab made her an icon in the eyes of Iran’s protestors, and a target in the eyes of the Iranian government. Nika never went home.

Iran’s government claimed she killed herself by jumping from a building, but her mother never accepted it.

Now, ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Eye investigates this shocking report, written by the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), showing how she was hunted down, sexually assaulted and bludgeoned to death.

We put the report's allegations to the Iranian government. They did not respond.

Update: Since the release of this documentary, the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ has seen further evidence that shows potential discrepancies in the timeline laid out in the leaked document. The ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ stands by the verification processes it went through, and the film clearly lays out the limitations and difficulties in verifying the evidence available surrounding Nika’s death. The story remains available on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ platforms.
