Chamber music from Edinburgh and the Proms

Chamber music from this year’s Edinburgh International Festival and orchestral music by Beethoven, Brahms and Sarah Gibson from the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Proms introduced by Elizabeth Alker.

Elizabeth Alker introduces chamber music recorded exclusively for the programme at this year’s Edinburgh International Festival and from the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Proms. The young French pianist Alexandre Kantorow has been described as ‘Liszt reincarnated’ and this summer he makes his Edinburgh International Festival debut. After becoming the first French pianist to win Gold at the Tchaikovsky Competition aged 22, Kantorow has gone on to record eight albums of music by Liszt, Saint Saens, Brahms and Rachmaninov. He brings that love of Romantic repertoire to his recital at the Queen’s Hall.

Also in today’s programme, the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Philharmonic Orchestra at this year’s Proms, in a programme that includes Sarah Gibson’s ‘warp & weft’, inspired by the work of Canadian artist Miriam Schapiro.
