Jon Boden pops round for a Christmas party

Jess Gillam hosts a Christmas party back home in the Lake District with singer Jon Boden and friends & family. With live music, festive tunes and lots of Jess's mum's mince pies.

Jess Gillam heads back home to the Lake District to host a Christmas house party. She's joined by folk singer Jon Boden, friends & family, and lots of Jess's mum's mince pies, to share their favourite Christmas music and to play a few impromptu festive tunes together.

Jon Boden is probably best known as the lead singer of the brilliant contemporary folk band Bellowhead, and alongside his duo with John Spiers and various solo projects he's one of the most recognisable and acclaimed names in today's UK folk scene.

Jon chats to Jess about his musical traditions at Christmas - from pub singalongs to arranging Mummers carols - and he and Jess swap some of their favourite tunes, from Dinah Shore to Steeleye Span via Darlene Love, Gustav Holst and Samuel Coleridge Taylor.
