Beware of the Moss

'The Lawn Ranger' has advice for when you should give your grass the first cut.

"Coyle, I believe you were looking for my advice the other day about cutting your grass. It’s ok to cut your grass when the grass is dry enough and under foot is also firm enough to walk on. You’ll do more harm than good if either is too wet plus you’ll just dull the sharp edge on your blades. Even if it’s good to go you only want to be taking a bit off the top to leave it tidy and not to put the mower under stress by cutting too low. St Patrick’s day was always a good guide to start but with the milder winters that date has moved to the start of March. Beware of the moss which will be plentiful with the damp weather too." texts the Lawn Ranger.

Martin in Derry has some advice too "Don't mow your grass at this time of the year, just pour a bottle of Vodka on it and it will come up half cut."
