In Jamz Supernova鈥檚 Global Sounds, Jamz delves into the heartbeat of musical scenes across the globe.

Across this four-part series, Jamz explores global sounds from Japan (uncovering the country鈥檚 diverse club and underground music movements), Uganda (tracing the evolution of electronic Kadodi and Uganda鈥檚 experimental club movements), and the Pacific Islands (spotlighting contemporary artists from Aotearoa to Tahiti, and from Tonga to Samoa redefining tradition).

In this episode, Jamz explores Brazil鈥檚 alternative musical underground, moving beyond Baile Funk鈥檚 global explosion to uncover the experimental, left-field, and independent sounds pushing Brazilian music forward. From the clubs of S茫o Paulo to the deep basslines of Rio de Janeiro鈥檚 bailes, this episode dives into the genre-bending artists redefining Brazil鈥檚 musical identity.

Jamz speaks with anthropologist and Brazilian Funk expert Dennis Novaes, who explores the history of Brazilian Funk from its origins in Black Rio to the diverse regional sounds it has developed today. Additionally, Jamz goes beyond Baile Funk, featuring insights from the Brasilia-based festival Favela Sounds, the alternative record label QTV, and hears from the Rio-based experimental band Our茫. There are also contributions from London-based journalist and writer Gabriela Vallim, as well as Mr Bongo on his Brazil 45s series.
