Radio 2 Loves Brass: The Concert

Marti Pellow and Carly Paoli join the Black Dyke Band, host Zoe Ball and special guests, The Punjabi Roots Drummers and Bradford Cathedral Choir at St George's Hall in Bradford.

In this unique performance being held in conjunction with Bradford 2025 City of Culture, Zoe Ball presents Black Dyke Band conducted by Nicholas Childs with special guests including Bradford Cathedral Choir, The Punjabi Roots Drummers, soprano soloist Carly Paoli and singer Marti Pellow.

The musical journey takes in everything from Bond to Bhangra set alongside timeless melodies. These include One Voice, You'll Never Walk Alone, Both Sides Now, Goodnight Girl and The Easter Hymn from Cavalleria Rusticana. The work of Bradford's most celebrated composer, Frederick Delius, is also featured alongside a new commission from leading brass band writer Peter Graham celebrating Bradford's 19th Century cultural ties with 'The New World'. These were cemented by The Fisk Jubilee Singers, a group of freed slaves from Nashville. They visited the city of Bradford no less than 6 times in the late 19th Century, bringing Gospel Music to these shores for the very first time with songs including Swing Low Sweet Chariot, Joshua Fit The Battle Of Jericho and Ev'ry Time I Feel The Spirit.
