Talking to Nemone, who combines her roles of DJ and qualified psychotherapist, Seun dives deep to share his story and the songs that have moved him and sound-tracked the ups and downs of his life. The Nigerian musician and activist also reveals how personal experiences and emotions are woven through his own work.
Performer, composer and bandleader Seun Kuti talks about his latest record with the Egypt 80, Heavier Yet (Lays The Crownless Head) including the honour of working with De La Soul鈥檚 very own Posdenuos.
The son of Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti, Seun has taken on the mantle, as well as the band, of his father, since he passed away in 1997. As well as discussing his latest album, the conversation with Seun focuses on growing up in Fela Kuti鈥檚 compound, the Kalakuta Republic, and the effect this unique education has had on him.
He remembers how seeing his father on stage led directly to him wanting to follow in his footsteps, and the difficulties of having to do so at the age of 14 after his fathers passing. He also talks about his siblings and how they鈥檙e musical passions have informed his own.
