Mel B
Alison Hammond spends a big weekend with Mel B, who opens up about her time as a Spice Girl and being a domestic abuse survivor while taking Alison to Blackpool where her career began.
Alison Hammond spends a big weekend with none other than Scary Spice herself, Mel B. The adventure begins in Mel’s hometown of Leeds, where she’s built a new life following her high-profile divorce from her second husband, Stephen Belafonte.
Alison dives into Mel’s daily routine on her working farm, helping feed the chickens and goats, all while uncovering what life was truly like as part of the Spice Girls. Being a big fan, Alison finds out what it was like being in the band and learns that Mel B and Geri still have a tumultuous relationship, speaking one day and not the next.
The visit takes a heartfelt turn when Alison meets Mel’s mother, Andrea. Together, they reflect on the challenges of Mel’s past, including her time in America and the alleged abuse she endured in her marriage, which strained their mother-daughter bond for years. Always happy to lend a hand, Alison joins Mel and Andrea in attempting to wallpaper their living room with leopard print – much to Andrea’s dismay.
As the day winds down, Mel and Alison sit by the fire to discuss Mel’s dreams for the future. The next morning, the pair head to Blackpool, where Mel’s journey as a performer began at the tender age of 15. They revisit her tiny old bedsit, a far cry from her current life, and stop at the Horseshoe Bar, where Mel started her life as a dancer, with Alison even convincing Mel to recreate a part of her old routine.
To cap off the weekend, the duo take on the iconic Big One rollercoaster, ending their adventure on a high – literally and figuratively.
