Sara Mohr-Pietsch takes us on a musical journey towards the Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5 by Heitor Villa-Lobos. Scored for soprano and an ensemble of eight cellos, the piece is a mix of Brazilian lyricism with harmony and part-writing inspired by the baroque style of his hero Johann Sebastian Bach. On the way we encounter Bach-inspired music by Felix Mendelssohn and Nina Simone, a piece for 40 cellos by Pablo Casals, and Brazilian music by Ernesto Nazareth and the eighteenth-century composer Andr茅 da Silva Gomes.
