Emptyset’s mixtape

Jennifer Lucy Allan presents a mixtape from Emptyset, the duo of James Ginzburg and Paul Purgas, who explore noise, rhythm, and structure through raw, immersive sound.

Jennifer Lucy Allan presents a mixtape from Emptyset, the multidisciplinary production project of James Ginzburg and Paul Purgas. Together, they explore the sonic possibilities of electroacoustic and computer music, materiality and performance, interrogating the material properties of noise and rhythm through fractured structures and seismic low frequencies. Emptyset’s latest album, Dissever, continues their ongoing exploration into the histories of electronic sound and media across the 20th century, considering the intertwined evolution of cosmic rock, minimalism and electronic music through the lens of speculative futures and overlapping technological ambitions.

Elsewhere in the show, we hear a specially commissioned collaboration by audiovisual artist m3UNTITLED and experimental duo GOMID, deconstructing Yorkshire club music, recorded live at the New Music Biennial in Bradford. Plus, a theatrical ruckus from Indonesia’s Wukir Suryadi, and an introspective improvisation for solo organ from Ellen Arkbro.
