Aamer fights for a public inquiry to finally get answers as to why violent sexual predator Iain Packer was able to remain on the streets for almost 20 years.
As one of Scotland’s leading law firms takes on their biggest battles to date, we witness what it takes to fight some of Britain’s largest institutions.
Aamer Anwar and his team strive to change Scotland’s historical laws and stand up for the underdogs. Placed at the heart of some of the biggest issues facing Scotland, this is a firm that is changing the game.
When Emma Caldwell was brutally murdered in 2005, her killer remained at large, and it wasn’t until 2024 that original suspect, Iain Packer, was finally convicted. With Aamer by her side, Emma’s mother, Margaret, is determined to find out why the investigation took so long and how a dangerous sexual predator was able to remain on Scotland's streets. Led by Aamer and the team, Margaret and the family are now pushing for a public inquiry to determine the facts. However, with allegations of Strathclyde Police’s mishandling of the investigation, will the Scottish government ever agree to a public inquiry?
In a flashback to the past, Aamer recalls his first experience taking on the police as a young lawyer challenging a wrongful conviction. The imprisonment of Thomas ‘TC’ Campbell in 1984 for Glasgow’s infamous Ice Cream Wars murders was a battle accepted by newly qualified Aamer, leading to the conviction being quashed in 2004.
Meanwhile, back in the firm’s immigration and asylum department, Denize Okan is fighting for one man’s right to remain in the UK. Having travelled to the UK to work, the man found himself subject to horrendous working conditions on board a fishing vessel. Now, his future remains uncertain as he attempts to appeal the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Office’s decision to send him home to Ghana.
