Episode 3 of 3

Inside the firm’s immigration and asylum department, the team appeal ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Office decisions, while Aamer reaches the conclusion of the inquiry into the death of Sheku Bayoh.

Inside the firm's newly formed immigration and asylum department, Denize Okan takes on some complex cases. Meanwhile, Aamer approaches the climax of his decade-long fight for justice for Sheku Bayoh, a man who died while being restrained by police in 2015. After ten years of campaigning, the public inquiry into Sheku’s death is coming to an end, but not before Aamer is asked to give personal evidence on his own experiences of being a lawyer of colour. Aamer seeks support from his long-standing mentor, Imran Khan, who made a name for himself working on the case of Stephen Lawrence. In an emotional meeting, Imran lends his ear to Aamer and reassures him, before Aamer heads back to Edinburgh to give his evidence. As the inquiry reaches its conclusion, Aamer is determined to argue for an expansion of the terms of reference, meaning those police officers involved could potentially be held accountable for Sheku’s death.

In the Glasgow office, Denize meets with a woman who has fled her home country in fear of persecution over her sexuality. After the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Office rejected her claim for asylum in the UK, Denize is preparing for the appeals process - but the future is uncertain for her client.

Aamer meets with Roza Salih, one of the original Glasgow Girls and now a Scottish politician and human rights activist who has been on the same side as Aamer during many controversial challenges. And Denize tries to help an elderly grandfather and grandson who have escaped the conflict in Palestine and hope for a new life in the UK.
