Mendelssohn in Italy, Brahms in Vienna and new music from Bradford
Mendelssohn's Italian Symphony, the fourth port of call on Elizabeth Alker's tour of the symphonies, plus music by Mussorgsky, Brahms and Halina Rice at Bradford Biennale.
Mendelssohn's Italian Symphony, the fourth port of call on Elizabeth Alker's tour of his symphonies. Today's concert recording was made in Frankfurt in a programme that also included Brahms's lyrical Double Concerto - for violin and cello. We hear that today too. From Glasgow, pianist Daniel Ciobanu performs Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition from the Royal Scottish Conservatoire; and Elizabeth looks back on the PRS New Music Festival in Bradford held last month and to an arresting and eclectic piece by composer Halina Rice.
