Oasis Forever: Miranda Sawyer and Brian Cannon

Huw celebrates Oasis' long-awaited reunion show in Cardiff tonight. Oasis Forever is a deep dive into the music, legacy, and attitude of the band that defined a generation.

To celebrate Oasis' long-awaited reunion show in Cardiff on the 4th July, 6 Music is dedicating a whole day to one of Britain's most iconic bands. Oasis Forever is a deep dive into the music, legacy, and attitude of the band that defined a generation.

We're rewinding back to 1994, the year their debut album Definitely Maybe was released and changed British music forever. It was the start of Britpop and the rise of the brothers Gallagher. But alongside this, 1994 was a really interesting time for Music. Britpop was on the rise with Oasis and Blur leading the charge, but the reverberations of grunge still echoed strong from across the Atlantic. Hip hop was evolving fast, Nas, The Notorious B.I.G., and Outkast were reshaping the genre. Dance floors were alive with house, jungle, and rave energy, while pop saw global hits from the likes of Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson and Ace of Base. It was a year where every sound had its place and we celebrate it all on the 4th July.

Huw hears from Miranda Sawyer about her new Britpop book and the musical landscape in 1994 and Oasis art direct Brian Cannon joins with his memories of life with the band in 94.

Alongside this, we’ll be running an extended episode of the ѿý’s Rise and Fall of Oasis podcast in each programme. The Rise and Fall of Oasis is the ѿý’s 8 part podcast that delves into the complex and sometimes hilarious relationship between the Gallagher Brothers. Each episode focuses on a particular fight between Noel and Liam, shedding light on the creative process within the band, the tensions simmering beneath the surface, and the moments that define their relationship. The whole series is available now on ѿý Sounds, just search Oasis.
