Corinne Winters sings the title role of Katya in a production from Bavarian State Opera, with Pavel Černoch as her lover Boris and Violeta Urmana as her mother-in-law Kabanicha.

Set in an isolated, repressive Russian town on the banks of the Volga, the unhappily married Katya desperately longs to escape - both the town and her dominating mother-in-law.

With her husband Tichon away on business, she starts a passionate love affair with Boris local man, but Tichon's return prompts guilt and horror and her mind begins to unravel.
