Jeremy launches 21st Century Folk

Jeremy launches 21st Century Folk on Radio 2 - a celebration of folk and people's stories marking 200 years of the modern railway.

The award-winning and pioneering 21st Century Folk series returns to Radio 2 this month, with a week-long celebration of music and stories on the Jeremy Vine Show. With Railway 200 as the theme – marking two centuries of the modern railway - we hear from five people who have an incredible tale to tell about their connection to trains and the rail network. We then set their stories to music as folk artists are inspired to write original songs based on what they’ve heard.

We are joined by someone who has worked on the railway in the UK since he arrived from Barbados in 1962. We hear from a woman who climbed onto a railway line to take her own life before being saved by a train driver who eventually married her. And we learn the story of man who was abandoned at Reading station as a two week old baby. The phenomenal artists are Richard Thompson, Kate Rusby, Findlay Napier, Chris While & Julie Matthews and Bill Ryder-Jones.
