Sarah Walker with three hours of classical music to reflect, restore and refresh.
Today, Sarah has sumptuous orchestral music including a piano concerto by Ravel, the iconic opening movement of Beethoven’s Eroica Symphony, and a symphonic poem by Liszt that is rumoured to have been Wagner’s personal favourite.
There’s also a Bach prelude with an entirely new melody composed on top, a choral piece by Roxanna Panufnik that combines timeless plainsong with lilting repetition, and a burst of Mediterranean sunshine in a rhapsody by Emmanuel Chabrier.
And for this week’s Choral Reflection, Sarah’s choice is Sir James MacMillan’s The Gallant Weaver, a setting of a love poem by Robert Burns that conjures the sounds of Scotland.
