Violinist Théotime Langlois de Swarte talks Proms debuts!

Tom Service has the perfect classical soundtrack to start the weekend, and welcomes French violinist Théotime Langlois de Swarte to the studio to play live ahead of his Proms debut

Tom Service has guests, stories and the perfect classical soundtrack to start your weekend!

Described as "mesmerizing" by the New Yorker, the French violinist Théotime Langlois de Swarte is in town to make his Proms debut and he pops into the Saturday Morning studio with harpsichordist Justin Taylor to give us a sneak preview of his high-octane, virtuosic playing style. He chats to Tom about how to bring the dance into performing and why he's on a mission to breathe new life into centuries-old music.

British composer Tom Coult's new piece is given its world premiere at the Proms this week and he talks to Tom about why his music is all about Hendrix and harmonicas, ooziness and ghosts and the influences behind his bewitching sound worlds.

Plus Tom pays tribute to the conductor Sir Roger Norrington, who died this weekend aged 91 - Sir Roger leaves one of the richest legacies of any conductor of the 20th and 21st centuries and his landmark recordings of Beethoven symphonies remain as 'fresh as paint' today. Tom talks to Nicholas Kenyon who knew him well about his huge contribution to music, and we hear Sir Roger from the Radio 3 archives.
