‘Round Midnight is presented by award-winning saxophonist Soweto Kinch. This weekday late-night show celebrates the thriving UK jazz scene and spotlights the best new music alongside incredible acts from past decades.

This week Soweto is joined by leading UK trombonist Annie Whitehead. After leaving school at 16 to join Ivy Benson’s pioneering all female big band, Annie has gone on to forge a career as a formidable instrumentalist, working with fellow UK based artists including Penguin Cafe Orchestra, Chris McGregor’s Brotherhood of Breath, Lol Coxhill, and Working Week, as well as releasing as a solo artist.

From Monday this Thursday Annie will be taking us round her record collection and sharing some of the music that has helped shape her musical journey so far. Tonight, she begins with a release arranged by one of jazz’s greatest composers.

Plus there’s music from Robin Jones Seven, Poppy Daniels, and Marla Kether with Naima Adams.
